At Swedens easternmost point the experience begins. In the meeting between Sweden and Finland, in the center of Tornedalen you will find a large amount of Aspen trees, tanned fur and local textilias.
The icebreaker Polax Explorer docks in its harbour 46 km south of Cape East in Båtskärsnäs, Kalix municipality. Polar Explorer offers an unforgettable cruise in the frozen waters of Bothnia Bay. During the cruise you will witness this powerful ship break ice, you will learn from local guides and you will get to swim in the frozen sea.
41 km from Cape East you will be able to meet the sweet friends of Santa Claus up close. You can feed them and take some pictures. Meet the reindeer herder and learn facts about traditional reindeer husbandry. You can also test your skills in the reindeer lasso throwing or acquire a drivers license in reindeer sledding.
Since 1996 this incredible Castle has been built every winter, using only snow and ice from sea water as building material. Within the snowy walls you’ll experience shining white pathways, leading the visitor to fairytale-like sceneries. Gorgeous snow sculptures, one more beautiful than the other, and walls filled with amazing artwork made out of snow. Spend a night in the SnowHotel, with gorgeously decorated snow rooms it’s a true arctic adventure. When the castle closes its doors, the all-year-round SnowExperience in the new main building stays open.
Icebreaker Sampo can be found in Kemi, Finland approximately 39 km from Cape East. Experience the roaring sound of 3500 tons of steel breaking through the frozen ice of the Bothnia Bay. You will also get to explore the engine room and if you are up for it you can try swimming in the frozen sea geared with a survival suit.
